AbstractThis Photo essay documents the state of manual scavengers at 16 locations across the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh with a specific focus on women. It shows the deplorable condition of women and families trapped in the stranglehold and vicious cycle of caste based occupation of manual scavenging. Besides, it depicts systemic disempowerment and how we have become insensate to modern day slavery of manual scavenging.
