AbstractThe Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) is a Centrally sponsored scheme (CSS) launched throughout the State in October 1975. It is designed to promote holistic development of children in the age group of 0 ­ 6 years, expectant and lactating mothers and adolescent girls of 11 ­ 18 years. The objectives of ICDS are to be achieved through a package of services comprising Supplementary Nutrition, Immunisation, Health Check­ups, Nutrition and Health Education and Non-­formal Pre­school Education of children of 3 ­ 6 years. The implementation of the programme in the State was last reviewed and the findings included in the Audit Report for the year ended 31 March 1999. As a follow ­up audit assessed and evaluated the action taken by the Government on the audit observations included in the Audit Report for 1998-­99. The purpose of follow­ up, is to inform the Legislature about actions that the department has taken to address previous observations and recommendations of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. The present performance audit review covering the period from 2005-­06 to 2009­-10 revealed that the department has not complied with the previous audit observations and most of the deficiencies continued to exit during the five year period 2005 to 2010.
